Art Deco Coving
Art deco coving and plaster art deco cornice for modern coving to plaster cornicing. The Art Deco coving and modern plaster cornice developed in France between 1908 and 1912 and then spread to the rest of Europe between 1925 and 1935.
In 1925, Paris was the location for the Exposition International Modern, this gave us the name art deco plaster cornicing. The exhibition was meant to occur in 1908 but kept being postponed until 1925. The objective was to be modern style. Themes are escapism, fantasy, speed and glamour. As decorative or artistic style plaster coving or plaster cornice it was used in buildings in the modern style but also in decorative coving features in other styles. Influences were ancient Greek architecture such us ogee, caveto, scotia, stepped motifs and patterns, including sun ray designs, chevron and zig zag patterns. The art deco architectural plaster mouldings styles, interior and exterior plaster cornice designs are hard and brutal.
